Insight Safari Holidays currently lists the tour among its Uganda programs and publishes a starting price of about US$2,624.
The trip focuses more heavily on primates than on a long circuit of Uganda’s savannah parks. Chimpanzee tracking takes place around Kalinzu Forest before the route continues into southwestern Uganda for mountain gorilla trekking.
This makes Insight Safari Holidays worth considering if you prefer a scheduled departure and travelling with other people rather than booking a private vehicle and guide.
It may be less suitable for travellers who want to choose every lodge, control daily departure times or spend several nights inside Uganda’s major wildlife parks.
2. Intrepid Travel: Uganda Gorilla Trek Independent Short Break

Intrepid Travel offers several trips that include Uganda, but its Uganda Gorilla Trek Independent Short Break is particularly relevant for someone who mainly wants to trek mountain gorillas without doing a long East African tour.
The trip currently runs for four days. Intrepid describes it as an independent short break rather than a conventional group safari. Its US site was listing departures from approximately US$2,933 when checked in August 2026.
The main reason to choose this type of safari is time. Instead of spending ten or fourteen days travelling through Uganda, the trip concentrates on reaching the gorilla area and completing the trek. Intrepid also states that travellers can request a second gorilla trek, subject to permit arrangements and itinerary changes.
If your main objective is seeing Uganda beyond Bwindi, however, a longer safari that includes Kibale, Queen Elizabeth National Park or Murchison Falls will make more sense.
3. Audley Travel: Uganda Primate Explorer

This is a strong route for travellers who don’t want their Uganda safari to be only about gorillas. Kibale adds chimpanzees, while the Queen Elizabeth area introduces game viewing and a boat safari.
Audley is likely to appeal more to travellers who want accommodation, transfers and safari planning handled as one private itinerary rather than those looking for the lowest possible daily safari cost.
4. Volcanoes Safaris: Gorilla & Chimpanzee Safari

For 2026, Volcanoes Safaris publishes a rate of US$12,770 per person sharing during its high season and US$9,630 during its listed low season, based on a minimum of two travellers.
This is one of the more expensive Uganda safari options on this list, but it is aimed at a different market from overland trips or budget gorilla tours.
The strength of this safari is its clear primate focus. Rather than trying to cover every national park in Uganda, it concentrates on the southwest and combines the two animals that drive a large share of Uganda’s primate tourism: mountain gorillas and chimpanzees.
5. Go2Africa: Uganda’s Superior Gorilla Safari

Go2Africa also publishes longer Uganda programs that combine Kibale Forest, Queen Elizabeth National Park and Bwindi, showing the difference between a dedicated gorilla trip and a broader Uganda safari.
Choose the five-day format if gorilla trekking is the main reason for travelling. If this is your first trip to Uganda and you also want traditional game viewing, I would look at a longer itinerary.
6. Wild Frontiers Uganda: Classical Uganda Safari
Best for: A first full Uganda safari
Duration: 10 days
Safari style: Scheduled Uganda circuit
Main focus: Gorillas, chimpanzees and wildlife
Wild Frontiers Uganda offers a good example of what a traditional multi-park Uganda safari looks like.
Its published Classical Uganda itinerary runs for ten days and covers Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, the Ishasha area, Queen Elizabeth National Park and Kibale Forest National Park. Activities include mountain gorilla trekking, chimpanzee tracking and game drives.
This is the type of route I would consider for a first visit because it does not treat gorilla trekking as the entire Uganda safari.
Bwindi supplies the gorillas. Kibale adds chimpanzees. Queen Elizabeth adds savannah wildlife, while Ishasha gives travellers a chance to search for its well-known tree-climbing lions.
Ten days also gives the itinerary more breathing room than three, four or five-day gorilla trips.
7. Great Lakes Safaris: Uganda Discovery Safari
Best for: Travellers wanting several Uganda highlights in one week
Duration: 7 days

Main focus: Chimpanzees, gorillas and wildlife

This itinerary is interesting because seven days is about the point where a Uganda safari can start moving beyond a simple gorilla trek without becoming a long holiday.

Adventure Consults also publishes longer primate itineraries combining Kibale, Queen Elizabeth National Park and Bwindi, so travellers with additional days can add chimpanzee tracking and the Kazinga Channel.
9. Nkuringo Safaris: Uganda Gorillas & Wildlife Safari
Best for: Private travel and travellers wanting to reduce long road transfers
Duration: 9 days
Safari style: Private safari with domestic flight sections
Main focus: Gorillas and western Uganda wildlife
Nkuringo Safaris publishes a 9 Day Uganda Gorillas & Wildlife Safari beginning in Entebbe and using a domestic flight to Kisoro before visiting Bwindi.
The use of a flight matters because Uganda’s main safari areas can involve long driving days. Nkuringo Safaris itself notes in its Uganda planning information that travel between major wildlife attractions can take much of a day.
That makes this type of safari worth looking at for travellers who have enough budget to exchange some road time for air transfers.
Nkuringo also publishes longer Uganda routes, including a 12-day trip through Lake Mburo, Bwindi and other parts of western Uganda, as well as a 16-day national park safari.
10. Bamboo Ecotours: Gorillas, Golden Monkeys and Chimps Safari

This itinerary stands out because it introduces Mgahinga rather than concentrating only on Bwindi. Uganda Wildlife Authority confirms that Mgahinga is Uganda’s second mountain gorilla trekking park and is also home to golden monkeys.
For someone specifically interested in primates, this may offer more variety than a standard gorilla-only tour.
11. Enchanted Uganda Safaris: Discover Uganda
Best for: Travellers wanting a longer Uganda circuit
Duration: 15 days
Safari style: Local private or small-group safari
Main focus: Several national parks
Enchanted Uganda Safaris currently publishes a 15 Days Discover Uganda itinerary covering many of the country’s main safari areas.
The route includes Murchison Falls National Park, Kibale Forest National Park, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Bwindi, Lake Bunyonyi and Lake Mburo National Park. The safari combines savannah wildlife with primate tracking and a much broader view of Uganda than a short gorilla itinerary.
The company also advertises shorter Uganda trips, including six-day gorilla and Murchison Falls combinations, as well as gorilla and chimpanzee programs.
The 15-day itinerary makes the most sense for travellers who want Uganda itself to be the holiday rather than adding Uganda as a short gorilla extension to Kenya, Tanzania or Rwanda.
12. Dav Safaris: Best of Uganda Safari

A local operator can make sense for travellers who want to discuss accommodation level, route, vehicle type and trip length directly with the company arranging the ground services.
As with any Uganda tour operator, travellers should check current licensing, inclusions, payment terms and cancellation conditions before sending a deposit.
Which Uganda Safari Tour Should You Choose?
The right Uganda safari depends more on what you want to see and how you prefer to travel than on which company has the biggest name.
If your only objective is gorilla trekking, a four or five-day safari from Intrepid, Go2Africa or another short-trip specialist may be enough.
If you want gorillas and chimpanzees, look at routes combining Bwindi with Kibale, Kalinzu or another recognised chimpanzee tracking area.
If you want a more complete Uganda wildlife safari, allow enough time for Bwindi plus at least one or two savannah parks such as Queen Elizabeth, Murchison Falls or Lake Mburo.
For a first Uganda safari, I would generally prefer a route combining:

Travellers with more time can add:

Those routes produce a much broader Uganda safari than flying in, trekking gorillas and leaving again.

Bamboo Ecotours goes further by adding golden monkeys in Mgahinga to gorillas in Bwindi and chimpanzees in Kibale.

Best Uganda Safari for Wildlife and Gorillas

Best Uganda Safari for Two Weeks
A 12 to 15-day safari gives enough time to move beyond southwestern Uganda.
Longer itineraries published by Enchanted Uganda Safaris, Great Lakes Safaris and Nkuringo Safaris show how Murchison Falls, Kibale, Queen Elizabeth, Bwindi and Lake Mburo can be linked into one Uganda route.
How Much Does a Uganda Safari Cost?
Uganda safari prices vary widely because a safari can mean anything from a short road trip to Bwindi to a private high-end safari using domestic flights and expensive lodges.
The tours compared above show the range clearly. Bamboo Ecotours currently publishes its seven-day primate safari from US$2,630 per adult, while Go2Africa lists a five-day luxury gorilla safari from US$4,760 per person sharing. Volcanoes Safaris lists substantially higher prices for its lodge-based programs, while Audley’s private Uganda Primate Explorer starts from £6,670 on its UK page.
When comparing quotations, check whether the price includes:
gorilla permits, chimpanzee permits, park fees, accommodation, meals, airport transfers, private transport, domestic flights, boat trips and drinking water.
A cheap-looking Uganda safari can become expensive when permits and park activities are added separately.
Uganda Gorilla Permit Costs
Uganda Wildlife Authority introduced discounted low-season gorilla permit rates for April, May and November 2026, setting the foreign non-resident rate at US$600 during those months. The same UWA notice lists a foreign non-resident gorilla tracking tariff of US$800 from 1 January 2027.
Permit rules and prices can change, so check the current Uganda Wildlife Authority tariff when planning a gorilla safari.
Uganda Wildlife Authority confirms that gorilla tracking takes place in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Bwindi has four main trekking sectors: Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga and Nkuringo.
How to Choose a Uganda Safari Company
Do not choose a Uganda safari company only because it appears first on Google or offers the lowest price.
Start by checking whether the company is properly registered and licensed. The Uganda Tourism Board maintains a current list of licensed tourism companies, while the Association of Uganda Tour Operators publishes a directory of its members.
Then compare what is included in the quotation.
Two seven-day Uganda safaris can have completely different prices because one may use budget guesthouses and road transfers while another uses high-end lodges and domestic flights.
Ask about:
the exact accommodation, vehicle type, private or shared transport, permit costs, park fees, meals, airport transfers, drinking water, domestic flights, guide arrangements and cancellation terms.
Most importantly, compare routes, not simply company names.
A company selling the perfect three-day gorilla trip may not be the company you would choose for a fourteen-day birding safari or a private family trip through Kidepo and Murchison Falls.
Are International or Local Uganda Safari Companies Better?
Both can work.

How Many Days Are Enough for a Uganda Safari?
Three or four days can work for a gorilla-focused trip.
Around seven days allows you to combine gorilla trekking with one or two additional wildlife areas.
Nine to ten days is a stronger length for a first Uganda safari because it can combine gorillas, chimpanzees and savannah wildlife without forcing every day into long transfers.
Twelve to fifteen days allows a much wider circuit, potentially adding Murchison Falls and Lake Mburo to the better-known southwestern parks.

Which National Parks Should Be Included in a Uganda Safari?
For most first-time visitors, the strongest combinations come from a handful of parks.
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is Uganda’s main gorilla trekking destination. Uganda Wildlife Authority says the park protects approximately 459 mountain gorillas.
Mgahinga Gorilla National Park offers another Uganda gorilla trekking option and also has golden monkey tracking.
Kibale National Park is commonly combined with Bwindi on chimpanzee and gorilla itineraries.
Queen Elizabeth National Park fits naturally between Uganda’s forest destinations and adds game drives and boat trips on the Kazinga Channel.
Murchison Falls National Park works better on longer Uganda safaris because it sits farther north.
Lake Mburo National Park is often used near the beginning or end of western Uganda road circuits.
You do not need to include every park. A better safari spends enough time in a few good areas rather than turning the holiday into a race between national parks.

Which Uganda Safari Would We Choose?
For a first trip to Uganda, I would choose a 7 to 10-day safari combining Kibale Forest, Queen Elizabeth National Park and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
That route gives you three very different sides of Uganda in one trip:
chimpanzee tracking in the forest, savannah wildlife and a boat safari around Queen Elizabeth, and mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi.
If your budget and time allow, add Murchison Falls National Park.
If gorilla trekking is your only priority, don’t pay for a two-week safari simply because it covers more places. A well-planned three to five-day Bwindi trip may be all you need.
The best Uganda safari is therefore not necessarily the longest, cheapest or most expensive one.
It is the tour that gives you the animals, parks and travel style you actually came to Uganda for.
