Around the park sit several Wildlife Management Areas, community lands where villages set aside space for wildlife and earn a share of tourism income in return. Randilen WMA and Burunge WMA are two of the more active ones. They work as buffers, widening the effective range of the park, protecting stretches of the migration corridors and giving local Maasai communities a direct stake in keeping wildlife on the land.

The logic is straightforward. If wildlife pays its way through tourism and the money reaches the people living alongside it, those communities have a reason to keep grazing land open and to tolerate elephants crossing their fields. When wildlife brings no benefit, land gets converted to crops and the animals lose their route.
